Expert Review, Specs & Price
Expert Review
Trek kept it practical with this generation of FX 2 and it rides like a sporty commuter that won't fuss. On smooth city loops it's lively and efficient, with a road-like forward position that still feels controlled when traffic gets sketchy. Key bits are the 35 mm tires with room to 40 mm for a bit more comfort, hydraulic disc brakes, Alpha Gold aluminum frame and 1x9 mechanical CUES drivetrain on aluminum wheels. Riders who want a fast, utility-ready flat-bar bike will like it, but you trade a bit of lightness for those practical mounts and durability.
Pros
- 35 mm tires hit a nice balance between speed and comfort for cracked urban pavement
- Hydraulic disc brakes bring consistent stopping power in wet city conditions
- Rack, fender and kickstand mounts make weekday commuting and errands straightforward
- Alpha Gold aluminum frame with internal routing keeps the bike tidy and durable
Cons
- 11.81 kg weight is a touch heavier for riders chasing every gram on tempo sessions
- Aluminum wheels add mass compared with lighter options, which affects fast accelerations
- 1x9 mechanical CUES drivetrain limits gear range for long climbs or fast mixed-terrain rides
Best for :
- Fast commutes and city loops with mixed road surfaces
- Riders who want a road-like, sporty flat-bar position
- Weekend fitness rides that need practical carrying options
- Someone who values low-maintenance hardware and durability
Not for :
- Riders chasing the lightest possible bike for racing or long climbs
