Expert Review

Forty-two millimetre tyre clearance and a 9.26kg build make this Canyon feel like a fast long-hauler that still wants off-road time. The frame’s latest-generation Grail carbon, with more capable geometry and top-tube mounts plus strapless bag compatibility, felt planted on rough farm tracks and flickable when the route tightened up. It rides on 40mm Schwalbe G-One R tyres, mechanical GRX 2x12 shifting and aluminum wheels with hydraulic discs, so climbs feel lively and braking is confidence-inspiring. You trade a little extra tyre volume for sharper handling and the aluminium hoops keep robustness but cost you some compliance.

Pros

  • 42mm tyre clearance handles chunky gravel and light singletrack with the stock 40mm Schwalbe G-One R tyres
  • Latest Grail carbon frame with more capable geometry makes the front end feel planted on rough sections
  • Top tube mounts and strapless bag compatibility make the bike adventure-ready for overnight runs
  • Mechanical GRX 2x12 shifting is familiar, robust and gives a wide gear range for mixed terrain
  • Hydraulic disc brakes stop predictably in wet and dirty conditions

Cons

  • Aluminum wheels are sturdy but trade some compliance and rotational lightness compared with carbon rims
  • 42mm max clearance limits very chunky, rooty singletrack or heavy bikepacking tyre builds

Best for :

  • Fast mixed-surface rides where speed on gravel and comfort on rough roads matter
  • Gravel racers who want a slightly more capable geometry without radical weight penalties
  • Bikepackers who value integrated mounts and strapless bag compatibility for minimalist loads

Not for :

  • Riders seeking big-volume tyre setups for technical singletrack
